Nigerian universities have not had a good outing in world universities ranking because of defective policies in the educational sector.
The former Vice Chancellor of Bingham University, Nasarawa State, Prof Samuel Leonard Kursim-
Fwa, said that the policy on education is very poor and that these policies are not conducive in our educational system.
Adding to that, he said that political moguls, and influential people in the society have tailored our educational policy towards entrepreneurship.
Comparing the Nigerian system with what is obtainable in Singapore, the Vice Chancellor said a lot needs to be changed in the Nigerian educational sector for the good of the society. Their universities are built underground where you find bookshops, info-tech, places for students to exercise and then shower and get back to the classrooms. Still on the contrast, at a mere touch of your laptop, every section of the university will be disclosed and over 150 of their universities will be displayed and it is free.
Sharing a personal view, he said he was able to download books of over 3000 pages in less than 30 minutes and that the Lecturers are so flexible and they move from countries to countries to do research.
He emphasizes on the need for an upgrade of Nigerian institutions and also on the curriculum in every educational standard in the county.
